My aunt and uncle are getting ready to downsize from a house to a condo, and in the process of basement-clearing they dug up this amazing poster that is now mine. The whole thing is reflective silver; I photographed it from an angle that minimized the reflection so it would be legible. I love how fresh the design looks today, letting the typography do the work. I also enjoy the tag line: “Superb tennis at the Rochester War Memorial.”
I’m sure it was. My aunt and uncle were living in Rochester, New York when this match took place in 1975. I can’t find any mention online of this specific match, but it seems Vijay Amritraj was a largely unsuccessful challenger to Björn Borg throughout the 70s—most notably in 1979, where Amritraj was pitted against defending champion Borg at Wimbledon. Though he pulled ahead two sets to one and 4-1 in the fourth set, the notoriously low-stamina Amritraj choked and Borg came back to win.
